SSCLE 2022 Trip
On Thursday 30th June, the SSCLE is offering a complimentary trip to those attending in person to explore Britain's past, including the medieval town of Malmesbury, the formerly Cistercian Tintern Abbey and the evocative ruins of Chepstow castle.
The trip is offered to all in person attendees free of charge but it is a ticketed event. We ask that you register for a complimentary ticket by clicking the button above by 27 May 2022. Tickets are non-transferable and you are expected to attend if you book a ticket.
The grounds of Chepstow Castle are steep and uneven in places, if you have any mobility concerns please get in touch.

8:30 am meet at the car park opposite Founders
8:45 first coach departs
10:15 am Malmesbury and refreshments (tea/coffee and biscuits)
Visit the home of William of Malmesbury including the tomb of King Athelstan, the Malmesbury Bible, and the striking Norman porch.
12:30 pm Tintern Abbey and Lunch
Discover the Cistercian abbey originally founded in 1131 now a fabulous example of thirteenth-century Gothic architecture.
14:20 pm Chepstow Castle
Explore the ruins of this Norman castle, transformed into a formidable fortress under the direction of William Marshal. (Please note that not all areas are accessible for people with limited mobility)
Arrival times are subject to change but we aim to be back at Royal Holloway by 6:30pm.
